    MediaNews Group is looking for a Senior Accountant who will be responsible for reviewing and preparing financial reporting for our Adtaxi Agency company, corporate digital companies, working with our media publications, preparing audit schedules, forecasting, capital expenditure reporting, consolidated reporting and special projects. Associated with this is monthly review of financials compared to budget, financial statement analysis and reporting, allocation of expenses, monitoring and providing guidance for corporate polices and year end budget preparations and reporting. A strong understanding of GAAP is required and excellent communication skills necessary to work with executive team, shared service center and media property controllers. #LI-CH1

    Responsibilities

    • Monthly review of expenses for accruals, variance explanations, financial reporting and communicating with Adtaxi Agency, corporate digital team and property locations.
    • Monthly close process for media properties – corporate analysis and guidance to the properties necessary to complete financial statements.
    • Monitoring non-operating expense process for properties. Review and validation of non-operating expense for compliance with corporate policy.
    • Preparation of digital allocation costs to the media locations.
    • Review balance sheet reconciliations and consolidation schedules.
    • Weekly flash (monthly forecast) for Adtaxi Agency and corporate digital teams and periodic updating of the forecast for the fiscal year.
    • Review of intercompany entries on a consolidated basis.
    • Analysis of location financial statements (income statement and balance sheet), identifying potential accounting errors, and following up with the property as needed to ensure all issues are addressed.
    • Prepare annual budgets.
    • Capital expenditure tracking, forecasting, budgeting and review for compliance with corporate policy. Monthly and annual processing.
    • Cash flow reporting, GAAP accounting policies, building analytical excel reports using SAP financial reporting system, consolidated reporting and analysis.
    • Determine whether the property financial statements are materially complete and accurate along with assessing if the property has satisfactorily answered corporate review questions on the property financial statements.
    • Occasional moderate job stress due to deadlines, downtime and number of escalated issues from off-site locations.
    • Attend work on-site during normal business hours to process secure financial transactions

    Qualifications

    Competencies & Skills

    • Must be able to constantly prioritize workload with minimal supervision, manage and lead multiple projects throughout the month.
    • Strong Excel skills required (Pivot tables, vlookup, index match, etc)
    • Strong interpersonal and interrelation skills with an ability to establish build and maintain relationships with a variety of people across departments.
    • Organized and detail oriented with excellent prioritization and time management skills.
    • Outstanding communication skills, both written and spoken.
    • Critical and analytical decision-making skills used frequently
    • Exercise initiative to refine procedures and notify management of potential issues.
    • Ability to work with complex accounting transactions to accurately report consolidated financial reporting.

    • Must be able to attend work on-site during normal business hours to process secure financial transactions
    • Ability to research and resolve issues and to present financial information in a logical manner

    Required Education

     

    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

     

    Required Experience

     

    Three (3) years applicable experience.

     

    Preferred Experience

     

    Experience in planning and forecasting software (SAP EPM or similar system)

    Experience with accounting for a digital advertising business

    Experience with cash flow reporting, capital spending, forecasting

    CPA preferred or working toward certification

     

    Work Environment
    General office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. 

     

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light weights of up to 10 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
