    The Macomb Voice, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group is looking to a Editional Assistant/News Editor to join their team!  Editorial Assistants are responsible for a variety of tasks supporting print and digital publishing platforms. These employees are responsible for managing content provided by multimedia staff and contributing reporters, and seeking out information to create content themselves. Schedule is weekly as assigned by a supervising editor; hours will vary with publication and group needs.




    • Manages content including stories and photos at direction of a supervising editor to make them ready for digital and print platforms.
    • Produces briefs, letters to the editor and short stories at the direction of a supervising editor from a variety of sources including press releases, social media posts, etc.
    • Maintains communication with a supervising editor and the production hub, when necessary, and uses Google content budget documents to keep everyone informed about plans and progress.
    • Understands and uses only company-provided hardware, software and cloud-based equipment and systems for company business and tasks.
    • Meets production deadlines.
    • Contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration.


    • Excellent grammar and writing skills. Some education in journalism, English, communications or related field is desirable.
    • Ability to work independently and remotely under deadline pressure and to prioritize tasks appropriately.
    • Ability to work with a supervising editor.
    • Understands the differences of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print.
    • Has a vehicle, a valid driver’s license and the proper insurance coverage
