    MediaNews Group is looking for an Employee Relations Manager to join our HR Team!  The Employee Relations Manager will facilitate and manage employee relations on behalf of the company for assigned company properties.


    • Conduct end to end internal investigations; prepare thorough summation of findings and recommendations on outcomes.
    • Ensure compliance, and act as subject matter expert, on multiple collective bargaining agreements.
    • Advise and train managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances in both union and non-union environments.
    • Develop further training as needed.
    • Collaborate with leadership on matters of policy and practice.
    • Collaborate with legal counsel as appropriate.
    • Maintain detailed records, and provide learnings and trends to leadership.



    • Bachelors degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources or related field.
    • 4 years of professional HR Admin experience, including 2 years in Employee Relations or equivalent through training, education, or other experiences.
    • 2 years of experience working direction with unions.
    • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP Preferred
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
    • Thorough understanding of dispute resolution.
    • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
    • Ability to work on multiple concerns simultaneously, excellent time management skills.
    • MS Office, Google Docs

    This position requires 5-20% travel.
