    St. Paul Pioneer Press, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking a Customer Service Inside Sales Representative to join the team!  MediaNews Group offers news reporting and third party advertising and marketing opportunities through its multi-platform products which include: web, mobile, tablet, and print.  We are one of the largest media groups in the U.S., serving high-value audiences and connecting advertisers to them. MNG publishes award-winning content (49 Pulitzers) that amasses and engages a nationwide audience via 800 multi-media platforms including web, mobile, social, and print.  We are transforming the news industry.

     

    Responsible for selling transient Classified advertising, fulfillment of Obituary ads for Private Party and Funeral Home clients, handling occasional switchboard duties, and other miscellaneous functions as assigned while providing superior customer service with each customer interaction either by phone or in-person. 

    Full-time employment in sales and/or sales operations is a potential opportunity;next step from this position.

    Responsibilities

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides superior customer service to all Pioneer Press/TC.com customers & callers who contact the Call Center either in any format: phone, e-mail or walk-in. Sells advertising space to customers either calling the newspaper to place classified ads, sending them electronically, walk-ins to 10 River Park Plaza, or outbound calling for special projects when needed. 
    • Provide superior customer service to all Funeral Home and Private Party advertisers inquiring about and placing an obituary. 
    • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality & accountability by showing up to work on time in order to maintain the flow of calls & needed customer service in the call center and/or front counter for coverage. 
    • Achieves sales & productivity targets while collaborating effectively in a team environment. 
    • Performs switchboard functions for customers calling into Pioneer Press. 
    • Communicates effectively verbally & in writing with internal & external customers & co-workers.
    • Reads the Pioneer Press newspaper, e-edition and/or website daily to demonstrate familiarity with its contents. Searches 7-day archives to find specific information for customers regarding news articles. Provides customers with information not limited to articles, columnists, sports scores, basic audit & readership figures, rate requests, company events & promotions. 
    • Attends & participates in on-going sales seminars and training sessions as requested.
    • Completes other job duties and projects as assigned.

     

    When assigned to the front counter the following additional duties will be performed: 

    • Is a positive reflection of the overall product & service offered by the Pioneer Press, TC.com, Adtaxi Twin Cities.
    • Solicits expiring ads for all non-contract classified advertising. 
    • Handles all non-contract billing corrections & adjustments for advertisements currently running in the newspaper or already billed.
    • Handle all general correspondence from non-contract classified advertisers & Pioneer Press subscribers.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Two years previous sales or customer service experience either in-person or by phone. Customer service experience could be any position that requires customer contact & has the authority to make decisions affecting the customers & impacting company business.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills & above average written skills.
    • Have an extremely courteous & professional telephone manner, show enthusiasm & demonstrated assertiveness.
    • Enjoys working in a dynamic, changing work environment that values learning & development of employees.
    • Use consultative, customer service-focused skills to get advertisers to commit to an advertisement order.
    • Time Management skills: ability to write business email and possible ad copy, process paperwork in a timely way 
    • Ability to communicate sincere interest in the advertiser & demonstrate a commitment to customer service over the phone or in person. Candidates who can type 35 WPM with net accuracy a plus.
    • Basic knowledge of PC applications & the ability to navigate in a Google environment using multiple software packages including Microsoft Office & Gmail.
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations essential.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

     

    • Part-time position requires being at the desk available to handle incoming calls 90%+ of the time.
    • Workstations allow the employee to stand or sit to handle calls. 
    • Call Center operates: Monday thru Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday 10 am thru 2:30 pm & Sunday 12 Noon thru 3 pm.
    • Looking for the ideal candidate to work between 20 - 25 hours/wk including 1 Saturday &/or Sunday shift per month.
