The News Herald, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking an Inside Sales Representative to join the team!  MediaNews Group offers news reporting and third party advertising and marketing opportunities through its multi-platform products which include: web, mobile, tablet, and print.  We are one of the largest media groups in the U.S., serving high-value audiences and connecting advertisers to them. MNG publishes award-winning content (49 Pulitzers) that amasses and engages a nationwide audience via 800 multi-media platforms including web, mobile, social, and print.  We are transforming the news industry.


The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for utilizing professional sales skills and applying knowledge of the newspaper, the market, competing media and the customer’s business to negotiate sales and provide advertising solutions.


  • Maintain and service current accounts by evaluating customers needs, utilize applicable research, make presentations, prepare written proposals, and close sales
  • Develop new business via prospecting
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of complete portfolio of sales solutions for current customers and new business
  • Aggressively sell against competing media 
  • Assist in the development of effective ad copy and design layout
  • Manage all paperwork and necessary details, including accurately ordering ad insertions and adhering to production requirements; timely processing of credit adjustments and maintaining account files by following accounting/credit procedures; and preparing accurate monthly revenue projections
  • Ensure good customer relations by handling all customer requests, questions and complaints, and facilitating their resolution through personal action and intervention


  • College degree or equivalent work experience required
  • One year of sales experience preferred. Customer service and phone skills required
  • Demonstrated sales and customer service skills, including closing sales, overcoming objections, and dealing with difficult situations
  • Ability to operate independently and work well with others in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities; demonstrated time management skills
  • Proficient in the use of software and computer systems
  • Ability to work with numbers, including selling with research, analyzing and correcting bills, analyzing and interpreting reports, calculating rates and costs
  • Thrives in a competitive environment and has excellent listening, written, and verbal skills

Work Environment


This job is for a normal office work environment with continuous use of a computer/keyboard. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and read written and PC monitor information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.


This position may be permanent remote.
